"The Sheikh's Son" [Arabian Heat Series & Billionaires and Babies Series, Book 3] by Kristi Gold

Author's Book Description : Her sheikh, her prince...her pretend husband?

Prince Adan Mehdi isn't normally one to back off from a beautiful woman, but there's something so pure about American heiress Piper McAdams that it seems like the honorable thing to do. Piper believes in his good intentions until his supermodel ex shows up with their baby! Still, Piper agrees to show Adan the parenting ropes and pretend to be his wife until custody with his ex is settled. But playing royal house tests the prince's resolve, and soon things get steamier than either of them imagined. Could a real white wedding be in their future?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Captivating me from the beginning with the main characters’ witty banter, this fiery contemporary romance was one that hooks you and doesn't let go!

Adan & Piper turn a playful flirtation into a sudden relationship once Adan becomes aware of his one-month-old son and Piper decides on helping him out in learning his care taking duty. Their chemistry was one that I loved reading about and they quickly became one of my favorite couples.

Yet I wish Adan handled his feelings better. I mean I liked how the plot turned their story out in the end, even though Adan made a flop of their relationship when the emotions got to tough for him, but I can't help but think of Adan as a bit of an idiot since his actions really ruined my impression of him and the novel a bit.

Overall, though, recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys contemporary romances based around fathers!

-- On a side note --
This novel can be read as a standalone!

“What would have been wrong with letting everyone believe he’s mine and leave it at that?”
His anger returned with the strength of a tempest. “I will not deny my son to anyone. Under any circumstance.”
She blew an upward breath that ruffled her bangs. “Okay, it’s obvious we’re not going to get anywhere by playing the blame game. The question is, what are you going to do now? I don’t think moving to Antarctica is a viable option with a month-old child.”
The trip was beginning to appeal to him greatly. “If I refuse to comment further, the rumors will eventually die down.”
She leaned back and released an acerbic laugh. “By the time Sam turns twenty?”
He recognized the absurdity in believing any scandal involving the Mehdi family would simply go away. “You’re right. I will have to come up with some way to explain the situation. But I will not retract my statement regarding my son.”
She appeared resigned. ~ within Chapter 4
“I do believe I’ve located an impressive sea creature down below.”
“Actually, it’s an eel.”
“Electric?”
“Highly charged.” He brought her hand back to his chest. ~ within Chapter 6

Made the Grade: A Mother for His Children by Jan Drexler

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 396 KB | Release Date: August 1, 2014 | Publisher: Harlequin : Love Inspired Historical | Obtained: Harlequin

"A Mother for His Children" by Jan Drexler

Author's Book Description : FROM AMISH NANNY TO BRIDE?

After her sweetheart's betrayal, Ruthy Mummert leaves behind the small-town gossip of her Amish community for the first opportunity she can find: a housekeeper position in faraway LaGrange County, Indiana. Ruthy didn't realize the job meant caring for ten children—and for their handsome widowed father.

To Levi Zook's mind, Ruthy is too young and too pretty to be anyone's housekeeper. A marriage of convenience will protect her reputation and give his children the security they dearly need. But it could also give them the courage to grasp a new chance at happiness—if Ruthy is willing to risk her wounded heart once more.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's a sweet historical Amish romance about two lost souls finding one another.

What got me interested in this novel was actually a review by Kav R. from Harlequin's website which says, "This book tickled me so much I'm still grinning. I kept thinking of the song I Have Confidence from Sound of Music. The line -- "A captain with seven children, what's so fearsome about that?" -- readily transformed into "A farmer with ten children, what's so fearsome about that?" in my mind and I found myself humming as I read." And after reading this novel I have to agree that the plot did remind me of The Sound of Music because of how Ruthy moves into Levi's home and becomes the caretaker of everyone. I found myself intrigued by these two very stubborn characters, how their lives come together, and how they find that love can come in all shapes and sizes. Levi and Ruthy make a wonderful-gut couple.

Only at times, I wish they could have gotten over their stubborn issues quicker then they did. Since I found that even though I liked the plot the novel doesn't really pick up it's pace until around 70%, which is when Levi and Ruthy really work on their relationship. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this novel and it's captivating characters.

I recommend it to those who like historical Amish romances!

Jesse stuck his fork into his cherry pie. "You can marry Ruthy, Dat, as long as she makes pie for us."
Even Nathan laughed at this. ~ within Chapter 12
What possessed that man? Ruthy glanced down at her leather shoes, fine for wet grass or a gravel drive, but they would be ruined if she went in the pen.
"You know very well I can't come in there, Levi Zook. You bring that sheet over here this minute." Frustration made her voice squeak at the end, and she heard a giggle from the clothesline behind her. Waneta was enjoying this standoff.
"What will you give me if I do?" Levi stepped closer to the fence, holding the muddy sheet away from her.
"I'll have you know, Levi Zook, if you don't give that to me, I'll feed your dinner to the pigs."
Levi came a step closer and stopped, inches away from where she still stood on the fence. His eyes twinkled, be he dropped his voice so it wouldn't carry to Waneta. "You wouldn't feed my dinner to the pigs. You would never waste good food that way."
"You don't think so?" ~ within Chapter 17

Made the Grade: The Duke of Snow and Apples by Elizabeth Vail

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1433 KB | Expected Release Date: August 26, 2014 | Publisher: Entangled Publishing : Select | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Duke of Snow and Apples" by Elizabeth Vail

Author's Book Description : Frederick Snow, first footman, is the perfect servant: efficient, hardworking, and completely bereft of emotion. Unbeknownst to his employers, he’s the lost Duke of Snowmont, on the run from a suspicious stepfather and a powerful magic he can only control by burying his passions beneath his frosty demeanor. He’s managed to hide behind his carefully ordered life until an impertinent miss arrives and challenges everything he thought he wanted.

If Charlotte Erlwood wants to land a wealthy, titled husband at her great aunt’s house party, she has to stop losing her temper – especially with inordinately handsome footmen. Perhaps if she recruits Frederick for her matrimonial schemes, she’ll be able to direct her attention toward suitable single noblemen and away from inappropriate dalliances. But Frederick’s frigid control is no match for Charlotte’s irrepressible spirit, and her passionate kiss could summon the darker side of his magic...or wake his heart from its frozen sleep.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, a darker version of the Snow White fairytale with unique twists! Set in a historical feyish world, this dynamic novel gets you hooked from the beginning with its intriguing plot and entertaining characters.

I truly liked the idea of how the roles in this novel were switched from the original story, making Frederick to be "Snow White" and Charlotte to be "the Prince." Yet, even though that is what it seems they both end up saving each other while turning each other’s worlds’ upside-down in the process. Together they prove that you can fall in love no matter what the circumstances, as what is inside you matters more then anything else.

In addition to the main characters, I liked Charlotte's Aunt Hildy and the other "Dowagers/Diamonds." They keep up the humor throughout this novel while giving you different glimpses as to what the rest of society is like for where they live.

The only reason I didn't give this novel a higher rating was because of how much Charlotte and Frederick annoyed me at times with the refusal of their feelings. Also, because of how Frederick seemed to be a bit oblivious as to everyone around him (a little too much in my opinion) when all the pieces of "his mystery" were finally adding up. I guess I just wish it wasn't as dragged out as it was.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy this novel and hope there will be a sequel or another book to turn this into a series!

I recommend this novel to anyone who likes reading twists on fairytales and/or fantasy romances!

Book Teaser(s) :
An overpowering urge to laugh rose from his belly, the kind of wild, uninhibited laughter that clenched the body like a fist to wring as much mirth as possible from every pore. He hadn’t laughed that way in such a long time he had a sudden fear he might forget how and end up howling or screaming instead, so when the laughter seized his throat he spat it out as words.
“I’m sorry I kissed you,” he said. Vivid hues bloomed in the air between them, rich, varied shades of longing, most of them his.
Charlotte cocked her head to one side. Her lips bowed into a slow, lopsided smile. “Liar.”
“God help me.” He chuckled weakly. “I’m not very good at being a rapacious footman.”
“True. But I can always use a friend. So could you, it seems.” ~ within Chapter 11
“I see you’ve met Quicksilver,” she said. The mare in question whickered as the lady approached. “Isn’t she fine? When I heard you were coming to hunt today, I knew I couldn’t allow you to ride any other. Smart as a whip, but patient as well, if you’re not sure of your seat. Don’t just stand there gawking, Freddy—mount my grandniece!” She turned to examine her harness, only to be distracted by frantic coughing sounds. “My word, Freddy, whatever is the matter?”
“Nothing,” Frederick wheezed. Charlotte, however, thought she heard, “just swallowed my tongue, is all,” muttered under his breath. She stifled a laugh into the back of her glove. ~ within Chapter 12
